Preparing to Visit India, 3: Visiting the Travel Doctor

7 days ago by minnesotameetskarnataka

This had been part of the preparation that scared me, but turned out to be much less scary than I expected. I had visions of a doctor pushing a hard sell of all sorts of painful injections, but this did not happen at all. Instead, we filled out some paperwork, received a big packet of information, h ...

Invisible body armour

15 days ago by stalinsmoustache

Aka a fist full of needles: I’ve just had injections for yellow fever, typhoid, Hep A, diphtheria, whooping cough and tetanus. And that follows the swine flu vaccination in October. Have I become a hypochondriac all of a sudden, shielding myself with invisible armour against potential sniffles and s ...

Vaccines for travel to Thailand make me feel blah

15 days ago by Seth

In preparation for an exciting trip to Thailand, I got vaccinated against all (okay, a small subset of) the baddies that seek to share my body. As an American in good living conditions, I have never worried about these ailments, but they are a reality in other countries so I thought it best to be pr ...

Orphans and Orphans: A Sad Bit of History

18 days ago by Tonia Kendrick

The topic for 85th edition of the Carnival of Genealogy is Orphans and Orphans; we’re invited tell the story of traditional orphans – children who lost their parents, or “reverse orphans” – those who left no descendents of their own to tell their story. What do you think of my SE Asia travel health plan?

19 days ago by vacation packages

I’m plotting to get vaccinations for Typhoid, Hepatitis A, and the Flu. I might get a Tetnus/diptheria/pertussis booster. I will bring DEET spray, Amodium A-D, Tums, sunscreen, and iodine tablets/tincture. Am I forgetting any essentials? Do you have any precautionary advice? Thanks!

Hospital Story by Kyle Cashulin

26 days ago by kcashulin

The whole crew was in Bali, and we decided to eat mushrooms on the beach. Wyan knew some kids that picked the right mushrooms in the rice patties. The cows defecate in the water, and the mushrooms grow out of the damp stool. So we each kicked in a few Rupiah and bought a salad-bowl of the small mush ...

Travel Vaccinations

27 days ago by Arrows

I have honestly trawled through website after website for hours on the best way, in terms of locality, price and method to obtain vaccines. Ok here’s the scenario: I’m 23, finished university, I work and I have been at my current GPs for 3 years. The point of this information is that had I still bee ...

part of an ongoing series of columns I’ve written for the TU Rambler; reprinted here in full (instead of the trimmed-down snippet of drivel they published under my name). September, 2009. Let’s talk about water. We can’t live without it; it quenches thirst better than Gatorade, and apparently, it’s ...
