Why Is Microsoft Making It Hard For Developers To Develop Apps For The Phone?... // technology

15 days ago by Ms. Very Stupid

Microsoft is the smartest dumb company I have ever seen. With all of their resources and mental power, they have made some incredibly stupid moves that have made me shake my head as a developer. The latest has to do with the Windows Phone. If you are a developer using Android as your platform, you ca ...

Going “Dark” for SOPA tomorrow

26 days ago by Jon

Tomorrow is SOPA protest day, a lot of sites (like Reddit, Wikipedia, etc) are going dark. I’m putting my 2 cents in and supporting the SOPA protest (since SOPA is evil, and so is any SOPA supporter) and that means the blog is going dark for tomorrow. We’ll be back Thursday with a real post.

Think!

31 days ago by Just Stupid

Submitted by a loyal reader… So the company is called: 8peers.com Their slogan is simple…THINK. YOU WOULD “THINK” that they would take to the time to THINK about what they wrote and not MISSPELL the word “individuals”. I guess you can say the”Relevant” communications for ”Like-Minded” individuals th ...

So long GoDaddy and thanks for all the SOPA

51 days ago by Jon

Yesterday, news came out that GoDaddy supports the “ Stop Online Piracy Act” aka SOPA aka The-Stupidest-god-damn-way-to-destroy-the-internet-congress-has-ever-come-up-with. SOPA is bad; it’ll break the internet; it’ll destroy free speech; it’ll kill due process… and generally give the megacorps the ...

THANK YOU FOR (NOT) BEING A CHASE CUSTOMER // technology

96 days ago by Jonathan Bourne

Recently, I got a "Thank you for being a Chase customer" letter from Chase (see below). On the face of it, it's pretty weird. It's saying: You're a customer, you don't get junk mail from us, but if you don't send us this form back, we are totally going to send you junk mail. But it's odder for me be ...

and it turns out the advertising is wholly inaccurate

132 days ago by strange and charming

As a follow-up to Advertising Other Than as Expected (or on LJ here), I now have absolutely no desire to ever again do business with the courier company in question. Actual phone exchange with the customer service rep (CSR): Me: Hi, I'm calling about the package I booked pick-up for on Wednesday Sep ...

How NOT to inspire faith, the mobile app for Ike’s Place // technology

138 days ago by Jon

As of last week, I’m now officially a resident of San Francisco. With this comes many benefits (like delicious food from crazy places) and many detractors (I have to sell my truck). Let’s ignore the down sides of living in the city and just focus on one thing, a sandwich place in the Castro called I ...

Review: SNAFU Con – Year 2

143 days ago by John

Last year, I went to SNAFU Con and found it to be fun and worth the price of admission, which is why I went ahead and prepaid for this year’s con, with the assumption that the date would be the same (weekend toward the end of October). Well, the date changed and it was actually Friday September 9 – ...

So a couple of weeks ago, I bought some tickets to go see Cirque du Soleil shows (one of the Cirque Week packages) in Las Vegas in December. The ticketing system had some hiccups, after which I phoned the ticket office, discovered that it was on their end, and waited a day at which point I purchased ...
