2 days ago by John Glenn Taylor

Here's a companion piece to the Why Chicks Cry article I published recently that is currently making a few waves, particular among young attractive female intellectuals of impeccable taste. This is a list of 66 varieties of the male species that women should probably avoid at all costs. These dirty ...

What makes chicks cry?

3 days ago by Sophie

I just stumbled across John Glenn Taylor’s blog Easily Mused, with an immortal post about Why Chicks Cry, with panels from a load of 1960s romance comics of crying women. It’s genius. The cheap paper and printing techniques give them a very recognisable visual style, and with the tears generally bei ...

66 Panels: Why Chicks Cry

22 days ago by John Glenn Taylor

They say that into every life a little rain must fall, especially if you are a female trapped in a romance comic. I never read romance comics much, and more's the pity, because I could have learned a lot about the fairer sex, such as what makes them cry. Turns out, pretty much anything... Headaches ...

12. DC’s Romance Comics

29 days ago by robin

Originally Aired on: Feb 08, 2009 The whole romance comic genre blows my mind. Think of it, it's a whole style of comic that is written by men, illustrated by men, for women, about love and relationships. As well, they're from the past, which makes their plots and conclusions even more inadvertently ...

Fun With Romance Comics: Two Awful Girls for Every Dumbass Boy!

55 days ago by Tiina

The first story in Heart Throbs #119 has all the ingredients for a great romance comic: tears! A girl fight! An oblivious and/or douchey guy! A romantic misunderstanding! Oh, and girl with must be a debilitating neck injury. What exactly is going on here? It’s sort of like that unfortunate pose we s ...

First one to say Comics Code Approved Bondage has probably already seen this site, but if not... And when you come back you can check out the original cover on DC's Love Stories #150, June-July 1973...

The Romance Annual Series

71 days ago by spiros xenos

I assumed Love 1977 was a one-shot issue from K.G Murray until I recently came across Love 1975. It appears there was a series of ‘Romance Annuals’ - presumably there was a 1976 instalment, and possibly more. Curiouser and curiouser....

Romance Comics 1970's-style

71 days ago by spiros xenos

Charlton's pastel tones on the cover of Secret Romance #30, January 1975 may have been nuanced and subtle (note the colour gradation on the skin), but I reckon the comparatively garish K.G Murray rendition above is far more in tune with the pop culture spirit of the times.

DC vs. Marvel Working Women

89 days ago by foxhugh

The non-superhero genre looked at in this post is women’s comics. This is the third post in this series.
