2 hours ago by fromthewilderness

Not what the American people ordered – HR 2749, martial law and the enslavement of their farmers Farm Wars Sunday, July 5, 2009 HR 2749 is a strange bill in many ways. pea pod soup – ewww

12 hours ago by colouritgreen

Those heaps of fresh green lovely looking pea pods just look too good to waste. But what to do with them? Well, I still intend to make pea pod wine – but the pods I need are stashed in the freezer, waiting for a spare demijohn. I have 15 bubbling away, but until the charity shop yields some more gla ...

eau de tomato

1 day ago by colouritgreen

It’s funny how this growing your own food malarky changes your appreciation for certain things. Mostly to do with the senses, I think. Taste, is of course, pretty much the whole point. I always love the smell of the greenhouse, compost tomatoes etc, and himself says my perfume is ‘eau de tomato’ as ...

4th of July Garden Update

1 day ago by quickgardens

Bring out the sparklers and bottle rockets. The Vegetable garden is still kicking. I do wonder if all the smoke tonight will affect the plants. Here’s the most recent video of the garden. I use a small digital camera for filming. I need to work on projecting my voice clearer in the video. Happy 4th ...

My how time has flown this year. I can’t beleive it is already July, so much has been going on around here! Mosaic Virus and Cucumber

It looks like the Mosaic Virus has attacked the cucumber plants. Summers are tough on plants in Florida. I’ll just remove them and put some peas in during the fall season.

rain!

3 days ago by colouritgreen

We have been promised rain for days. Yesterday the forecast gave a 60% chance.. yet it was clear blue skies and the hottest day so far. I, being a factor 30 sort of woman, hid from the sun, and worked my part time job in the afternoon, then ventured out late when it was cooler.. watering ..hefting w ...

purple podded peas

I’m a fan of purple podded peas. This is the first year we tried them. Pretty flowers, dark purple pods.. not only pretty, but it makes finding the peas a tad easier!, and lovely peas. They are not the only variety of peas we are doing, we have early onwards podding now – in fact we picked loads ton ...

Sweet Potato Mama

4 days ago by quickgardens

This Walmart sweet potato. became mother to this bed full of sweet potato plants. The mother potato is still producing sprouts which are then snapped from the potato and planted. I’ll have to create a new raised bed for the new sprouts. Now that’s a great investment.

more water collection

7 days ago by colouritgreen

We took the opportunity with the water butts being empty to have a swap around. We are saving enough rainwater to meet the needs of our livestock and vegetables, but not in the right places. The large ex-juice container water butt never gets empty, and we use this for the sheep. The pigs have their ...
