How strongly does being an orphan factor into financial aid for college?

Not only in regards to things like FAFSA but also any other aid that colleges might offer. I’m looking into going to top schools (Berkeley, UCLA, etc) but the cost is a major factor for me as I have absolutely no money. Thanks =)

Would I be able to re-apply for financial aid for college?

In 2003 when I first went to college, I messed up by not showing up to class or dropping my classes. So they held my financial aid check the next semester (2004). Now that I want to go back to school can or am I able to apply for financial aid? Or what is the process to get myself in good standing??

Do you get a letter or something? I have filled out the fafsa and have not heard anything back. I am really anxious because classes start in a few months. I don’t make enough to possibly turned down… Anybody with any advice will be GREATLY appreciated!
